What is BIGMEKI?
BIGMEKI is a 500 W food X-ray inspection system manufactured by Mekitec for large primary packages, secondary packaging, large trays and other oversized packaged foods. Its two published conveyor configurations couple the permitted load and speed.
Detection performance is application-specific. Mekitec confirms it by testing the actual food, package, target foreign materials, line conditions and reject configuration.
X-Ray Inspection System for Large Products
The BIGMEKI quality control system uses X-ray image processing together with MEKI AI X-ray Inspection Software. It combines the MIDMEKI platform with a substantially larger detection area for inspecting larger packages, including secondary packaging and oversized primary packages.
BIGMEKI is designed for the inspection of large-scale products. As with other Mekitec X-ray systems, high moisture content, elevated salt levels, and a variety of packaging materials (including metal and aluminum) are not a problem for the inspection.
Food X-ray inspection and quality-control functions
Foreign-object detection
The system creates an X-ray image and can be configured to detect foreign objects made of materials that create sufficient X-ray contrast, including metal, stone, glass, calcified bone and some dense plastics. Detectability depends on the object's material, size, shape, orientation and location as well as the food, package and line conditions.
MEKI AI quality checks
With MEKI AI X-ray Inspection Software, relevant quality checks will include counting and filling, missing or excess product, seal inspection, clip inspection, cavern detection and organic-material detection. Fill-level and cap inspection are used where the product and package geometry make those functions relevant.

How it works
A large package or tray enters the inspection zone on the selected conveyor option. The 500 W system and MEKI AI evaluate the approved criteria, and the configured line control uses the result for the application-specific reject process.

Maximum product width is 695 mm at 0 mm height and narrows to 390 mm at the maximum height of 300 mm.
