What is MEKI?
MEKI is a compact conveyorized food X-ray inspection system manufactured by Mekitec for small primary packages. It inspects packaged food for foreign objects and is available in 800 or 1,200 mm system lengths with air, pusher, flipper or drop-down rejection.
Detection performance is application-specific. Mekitec confirms it by testing the actual food, package, target foreign materials, line conditions and reject configuration.
MEKI™ X-Ray Quality Control for Small Packages
As with other Mekitec X-ray systems, high moisture, salt content, or different types of packaging materials (e.g. metal or aluminum) are not a problem for the inspection.
MEKI™ is designed for primary packaging inspection, which keeps the installation footprint in the production line small.
Food X-ray inspection and quality-control functions
Foreign-object detection
The system creates an X-ray image and can be configured to detect foreign objects made of materials that create sufficient X-ray contrast, including metal, stone, glass, calcified bone and some dense plastics. Detectability depends on the object’s material, size, shape, orientation and location as well as the food, package and line conditions.
MEKI AI quality checks
With MEKI AI, relevant quality checks will include counting and filling, missing or excess product, seal inspection, clip inspection, cavern detection and organic-material detection. Fill-level and cap inspection are used where the product and package geometry make those functions relevant.

How it works
Each package travels through the MEKI inspection zone. The system creates an X-ray image, evaluates the configured criteria and sends a rejection signal to the selected rejection system.

Maximum product width changes with product height. The complete product must fit inside the envelope.
Maximum product width is 240 mm at 0 mm height and narrows to 130 mm at the maximum height of 110 mm.

What package sizes fit through MEKI?
Package fit is determined by the height-dependent envelope. Maximum product length is 250 mm in the shorter configurations and up to 450 mm in the configuration intended for longer products.
Which reject options are available for MEKI?
Available rejection options include air, pusher, flipper and drop-down. The suitable configuration is selected for the product, package and line layout. Mekitec selects the arrangement for the product, package, line speed and rejection requirements.
